ACCORDING TO a 2014 report from the National Endowment for the Arts, there are over two million working artists in America. That means there are more artists at work today than ever before.

So why are so many museums and galleries showing the same work from the same people over and over again?

  1. I believe the answer to this question is that the art world has been kept small and in control by white men primarily for the sake of creating a higher return on investment according to the auction houses. More diversity is competition.

    On a related note, I worked for the pollock-krasner foundation that gives grants to working artists (internationally and in U.S.) and so for anyone who might be interested in finding out how to apply you can go to: http://www.pkf.org and click on the menu items for more info. They rotate juries of established well known artists to decide which artists to award.

    I loved the collective works in the show and congrats to you for being in it. 🙂
